SEVERUS COIN NECKLACE

£105.00

One of our favourite Roman coin finds, this replica coin of Septimius Severus is cast from a Limes Denarius we found in Cambridgeshire, dating to around 200 AD.

The reverse depicts the goddess Victory flying left, holding an open diadem above a round shield resting on a stand.

Lucius Septimius Severus was born in AD 145 and became Roman emperor from 193 to 211 AD. Severus brought the heart of Rome directly to Britain after setting out with a large army in 208 AD. For three years the Roman Empire was ruled out of York whilst Severus campaigned north of Hadrian’s wall.

Limes Denarii are thought to be coins minted on the fringes of the empire out of necessity, perhaps used to pay soldiers on the most far reaching frontiers.

Made from Sterling Silver.

Crafted in Great Britain.

Available with an 18” or 20” Diamond Cut Curb Chain OR an Adjustable Genuine Leather Cord in Brown or Black. Min Length 18” (45cm).
